I recently had the need to use old Microsoft Fonts on my Ubuntu box but ran into an issue getting them installed.
Here is what you can do after installation of ttf-mscorefonts-installer fails because it can’t download download files.
Download fonts from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mscorefonts/files/MS%20Core%20Fonts/win/
Then specify the folder where the downloaded fonts are to install from that location
sudo dpkg-reconfigure ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Refresh font cache for good measure:
sudo fc-cache -f -v
That should do it.
